You'll need to brush this double-coated, long-haired breed at least weekly, all the way to their skin. Stop brushing the coat dry and, instead, spray it with a spray bottle of water first to prevent damage; use a small slicker brush to clean the coat. Despite its long hair, the Sheltie only requires intermittent bathing.

On a scale of one to five—five being high-energy—Shelties ranks a solid five. This is a playful and very enthusiastic breed that would definitely love being given a task to do. These dogs can excel in any setting that offers adequate mental and physical activity. Examples of physical activity involve walking or running every day, playing fetch, or even running around the dinner table. Your Sheltie is also going to excel at agility or flyball, provided the opportunity. Then again, he is going to be more than happy to just cuddle with you on the couch, too.
