What Goes On In The Mind of A Dog

Hi, I've been in this pack now for almost 4 years. Although a good owner, my mommy has proven herself relatively useless as a human being. Mommy typically sets her alarm 5 minutes before she needs to wake up. And then in a supreme display of responsible behavior, pushes snooze 9 times. And while I think I understand mommy pretty well, there are still some things that I don't really get. Being fed is my favorite thing. Every time my mommy feeds me, I smile and wag my tail to tell her to feed me all the time! But she only feeds me twice a day. And twice a day is not enough! The rest of the day, I smile and wag my tail, but NO FOOD. Not getting food is NOT my favorite thing. Sometimes when I am hungry, I will let mommy know by jumping on her. And she gets really mad. Oh, and having pills shoved down my throat is also not my favorite thing. She can stop that at any time and stopping that will be my new favorite thing.

Getting pet and scratched is my favorite thing. I give her high marks for regular pettings and scratchings. I wish I had all of those finger things. It would make my life so much easier. Those finger things are magic in my fur and did I mention that getting pet and scratched is my favorite thing? Because it is. It is my favorite thing. Whenever no one is around, I will go and sleep under the couch. But when is everyone coming home, I feel so lonely here. :(

Oh! And going outside is my favorite thing! I like to go outside and I give mommy high marks for letting me go outside. Outside has lots of smells and smells are my favorite thing! I repay her kindness by dropping my "load" at the furthest geographical point away from her place of comfort and relaxation.

Wait. I want inside. Going inside is my favorite thing. She can let me back in now. I've barked. That is our signal. You can let me in now. Oh! Inside is my favorite thing. Yes. Inside. Inside is good. My comfy bed is inside. Oh! My bed. My bed is my favorite thing. It feels so good to lie down. My bed is definitely my favorite thing. I will have to continue this shortly because someone is at the gate! (Alert mode ON) I should bark and let everyone know.

Mommy likes to kiss my face and talks to me like I'm a baby. When I am afraid, mommy comforts me and promises that everything will be alright. I do not enjoy going to the vet but she says that it's necessary. I know most humans don't understand unconditional love. But my momma is different. There has never been a moment of anger, unkindness or neglect in the nearly 4 years I've been with my momma. She provides for me better than she does for herself. She always puts me first.

My mommy has demonstrated great patience and love, despite my frequent toothy abuse of stuffed animals, constant mooching for treats, liberal sharing of excess, unwanted fur upon the couch and as well as the infrequent yet inconvenient leavings of both liquid and solid waste products in the house.

My momma is never lazy. My food is always fresh, my water cool and clean and in the big glass bowl she knows I like best.

I'm also the first thing she greets in the morning and the last thing she kisses good night. She's my best friend, my favorite playmate and my caretaker and protector. She's the most important thing in my world.

It's why I guard the house while she sleeps... (and why I'd protect her with my life).
