Introduction To Cockapoo

You would definitely have lots of questions if you are thinking of owning a Cockapoo! These lovable, teddy bear-like dogs are one of the most common poodle crosses. Cockapoos are sweet, quick to train, active and intelligent dogs whose coats are considered to be ideal for people suffering from allergies.

Think a cockapoo might just be your kind of dog? We will answer all the questions most commonly asked below so that you can determine whether it would be ideal for your family to own a cockapoo:

What Are The Sizes Of Cockapoos?

Cockapoos are a crossbreed of both cocker spaniel and poodle, but when determining what size a cockapoo can grow to, it can be difficult to generalize. It really depends on the individual dog and whether one parent is a doll, miniature or regular poodle. Average cockapoos can be 10 to 15 inches tall and are considered to be small to medium dogs. They can have a weight of around 5-10kg.

Do Cockapoos Make Good Pets For Families?

Do Cockapoos Make Good Pets For Families?

Cockapoos thrive on human interactions and they are very friendly and considered to be good for kids, making them a good pet for families with kids. They are known to flourish with plenty of care, socialization and training in a family home environment. Please note, however, that young children should always be monitored when interacting with all dog breeds.

What Is A Cockapoo's Typical Life Span?

In general, their average life span is around 12-16 years.

Is It Easy To Train Cockapoos?

With both parents being highly intelligent breeds, Cockapoos are definitely clever. They love one-to-one training sessions, making them easy to train. They are also very sweet and human-oriented.

How Much Exercises Are Cockapoos Supposed To Have?

As energetic and intelligent dogs, adult cockapoos need a lot of exercises and mental stimulation. Around an hour or so, a day of exercise is optimal. However, caution should be taken not to overwalk the little cockapoo puppies. We recommend that you stick to the rule for five minutes of walking a day per month of age. For instance, a six-month-old puppy will have to exercise for 30 minutes, and a four-month-old puppy will need 20 minutes. This exercise is supposed to take place twice a day. Puppies will also need less exercise than adults do.

How Much Grooming Do Cockapoos Need?

Cockapoos need regular grooming to keep their coats matt-free. It is necessary to develop a daily routine for brushing and combing. In addition, their coats must be cut periodically with clippers or scissors. If this is not accomplished, the coats of the cockapoos will matt.

Cockapoos' coats often quickly attract grass seeds, burrs, twigs and other debris. Extra care and attention should be paid to removing these from their coats.

For People Who Are Allergic To Dogs, Are Cockapoos Suitable For Them?

If you're curious about what breeds of dogs are hypoallergenic, you will be pleased to know that Cockapoos falls into this group. Although the low moulting poodle coat can be inherited from cockapoos, it is not 100% predictable as their coats can take on the appearance of a cocker spaniel or a combination of both breeds.

Is Owning A Cockapoo Compatible With Your Lifestyle?

It is crucial to give real thoughts to whether or not they are appropriate for your lifestyle when making the decision to own any form of dog or puppy. Cockapoos are high-energy, smart dogs that need a lot of mental stimulation and exercises.

If you have the time, room and energy for a fun and lively breed and are willing to commit to the required training and socialisation, a Cockapoo will just be the dog for you.
