Cocker Spaniel's nature is energetic, adaptable and polite, and will live happily in all sorts of households. 

Being kind and compassionate, they make perfect dogs for first-time owners. Originally raised as gundogs, the innate instincts of Cocker Spaniels to 'work' indicate that they are wise, obedient and eager to please. They are also sociable, easily form close bonds, and love being with other people and pets. 

Cocker Spaniel Exercise & Training Needs

Cocker Spaniels would have to exercise for up to an hour a day. Clever and inquisitive, a mental stimulus is the perfect activity for this breed. They love fun games like fetch, as well as walks with a variety of smells to discover, and they enjoy the opportunity to wander freely. 

Cocker Spaniel training is very rewarding, as the dog is very keen to learn and responds well to obedience training and positive reinforcement. They can be susceptible to noisy sounds, but effective socialization from three months onwards can help ensure that they are accustomed to unpredictable activities, such as chaotic situations and kid's attention.

Grooming For Cocker Spaniels

Since they are a long-haired breed, frequent grooming is part of the life of Cocker Spaniel. Gentle daily brushing from a very young age can encourage your pet to establish positive relations with grooming, and will also guarantee that they are pleased to be tended by professional groomers when appropriate. 

Daily brushing can help avoid tangles and mats of the long 'feathered' fur on their underside.

As hunting dogs, Cocker Spaniels are instinctively attracted to water. Bath them as much as possible, but do make sure you use the right dog shampoo to help prevent skin allergies. It is also vital to brush their teeth daily, as this will help avoid the build-up of plaque and tartar and keep their gums safe.

A Cocker Spaniel’s average lifespan is usually from 12-15 years.
