Is Playtime with Cats Important?

As every fiction stems from a certain truth, the character Garfield must come from an experience that is true for at least one person. Some cats, like humans (and dogs), are especially fond of eating. In those instances, there’s a quick method to beckon your cat over than to yell her name repeatedly from the other room––she may know her name, and that you’re calling, but she’s not obliging just because.

Step 1: Open a bag of chips and watch that furry (unless it’s a sphynx) head turn sharply with yellow-green eyes that almost obviously convey “for me?”.
Step 2: Crinkle the bag and watch your cat expertly avoid all obstacles to make her way straight to you at top speed.

Unlike dogs who stare at you longingly while you fnish your meal with no scraps to spare, cats relentlessly try to steal food off your plate, the cabinets, and their feline companions. More often than not, our cats will successfully make away with a large chunk of forbidden food––there are many documented evidence on the internet.

For this reason alone, playtime for cats is important. It can provide the much needed physical activity to prevent them from becoming chunky. However, playtime for cats brings about more than just the benefits of exercise.

PHYSICAL STIMULATION

On top of getting little physical activity, most domesticated cats may cleverly get their paws into cabinets during self-designated snack times while we are not looking. Ample playtime will help keep excess weight off to prevent obesity-related illnesses and prolong their lives.

ELIMINATES BOREDOM

Finding cardboard boxes interesting and comforting may lead to assumptions that cats are easily amused. However, without enough outlets to expend energy, cats can become bored and restless, and turn to household furniture for relief (scratch!).

QUALITY BONDING TIME

We naturally bond better with people who spend quality time with us and make us happy, the same is with cats. Apart from providing food and shelter, engaging in playtime with cats can build the strength the bond between you and your furiend.
